The reading is from James 1:2-18 in Jane examining the question of resilience in our Christian lives. When people face difficulties can they bounce back stronger, are they able to leap into action after trouble? Jane examines the biblical roots around the English words translated as trials and temptations. How that the temptation faced by taking an easier route is harder to tackle than avoidance of outright evil. That in learning to be faithful and establishing a pattern and history of obedience helps build resilience.

Crisis ( not cosiness ) has come because the light has come into the world. This talk from Jane taken from Ephesians 5:1-20 looks at the ramifications for our behaviours in the public and the personal spheres. It includes an appeal not to contract out of public life and engagement because of the values of secularism removing faith to the private sphere. But in walking in the light what we can expect from the example of Jesus about the implications and consequences should we do so as light exposes intellectual and moral darkness of systems and powers.

Where we are not called to withdraw but to stay salty while engaged and applied.
